"The wisdom and compassion a woman can intuitively experience in childbirth can make her a source of healing and understanding for other women."
Stephen Gaskin
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.
Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.
Benefits of having a trained doula:
45% reduction in cesarean births
25% shorter labor
60% reduction in epidural requests
50% reduction in oxytocin use
30% reduction in analgesic use
34% reduction in forceps delivery

*Here at TLC I believe in the power of birthing naturally. Its know that women's bodies were made for this amazing process. The belief that little to no interventions is what makes birth work best, is the most natural and beneficial for your baby. However, what ever the choices are that you make, we will support you. If you decide that you want pain medication we would never deny the need if it arises. This is your birth and you deserve to have it exactly the way that you want it!
